Man shot outside Apartment for Not Selling Weed

A man is recovering from a gunshot wound after being approached by a man seeking to purchase marijuana.

The incident occurred on Friday, November 3rd at around 12:43 p.m.

The victim, a 20-year-old man, told police that he was leaving City Park Apartments on Fairburn Rd when he was approached by a man asking to buy marijuana.

The victim told him that he did not sell drugs and turned to leave when the suspect pulled out a gun and demanded money instead.

The two fought before shots were fired, hitting the victim in the leg.

The City Park Apartments, formerly known as Elite at City Park, is on the AJC’s “Dangerous Dwellings” list for violent crime and hazardous conditions.

Police have reported 106 crimes at this address between 2017 and 2022.

Last December, a man was critically injured in a shooting outside of the complex. Another man was reported shot in July 2022.

“Georgia law requires apartment complexes to take reasonable steps to protect their residents from crime,” says Atlanta Lawyer, Bradley Pratt. “When repeated violent crime occurs at a complex, and the complex has failed to take steps to secure safety, the complex owner and manager might be legally responsible to the victims.”

The investigation is ongoing.
